Boronia heterophylla – Red Boronia

An upright medium shrub with soft, fresh green linear leaves and masses of beautiful, brilliant magenta-pink bell flowers. This outstanding aromatic wildflower grows to 1.5m tall and flowers in spring. It prefers a sheltered though sunny site, with other shrubs or structure nearby to reduce the wind and with good mulch or flat rocks to keep the roots cool and moist. It grows quickly, tolerates frost and is a lovely cut flower. Prune lightly soon after flowering to encourage bushy growth. It grows in light and heavy soils so long as they are kept moist and cool in summer. Origin – South-west forests and shrublands, edges of swamps and creeklines.
