Xanthorrhoea gracilis – Graceful Grass Tree

$6.00

A tufted, grass-like plant with long, green needle leaves radiating out from a central base, without a trunk, and a long, slender flower stem with densely packed, white to cream flowers around the upper stem. An interesting plant to have in the garden, with copious nectar for insects, honeyeaters and honey possums, and nutritious seeds for parrots and cockatoos. The stiff leaves are up to 0.5m long and curve back to the ground, while the graceful flower stem can be 0.4 to 2m long and 5cm diameter, and is held upright to show off the flowers. This stem would be great in floral arrangements. Low maintenance and very hardy plant, though can be rather slow growing. Prefers well-drained sandy and gravelly soils. Origin – south west Jarrah forests.
