A medium shrub with rigid stems, light green thyme-like leaves and a profusion of lemon-yellow oblong flower heads, with small woody fruit capsules. This hardy shrub grows from 0.4 to 1.5m high and 1 – 1.5m wide and tolerates coastal conditions, some drought and light frost. It flowers from spring to early summer, attracting birds and insects and will brighten the garden. It flowers best in full sun, but will tolerate light shade. Tip prune if required after flowering to maintain shape and encourage flowering the following year. It grows in sandy loam, sandy gravel, gravelly loam, sandy clay and around granite outcrops. Origin – widespread in South West.
