Hakea lissocarpha – Honey Bush

A medium shrub with prickly divided needle leaves and masses of white to pink scented flowers. This hardy plant flowers from winter to spring and attracts many insects and birds, and the woody fruit are sought by cockatoos. It grows from 0.5 – 1.5m tall and prefers gravelly soils and sandy loam in full sun or part shade. Kangaroos usually don’t eat this plant so it is good for bush regeneration. Origin – common throughout the South-West and Wheatbelt in Jarrah forest, Wandoo woodland, Coastal shrubland and Banksia woodland.
